Lodge 128’s Santavy Family Wins Another for Canada

Business Representative Dalas Santavy’s son Boady has won the silver medal in the 94 kg (207 lbs) class final of the clean and jerk lift at the 2018 Commonwealth Games held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Boady put on a record-breaking performance at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre stage. He hoisted a games-record 168 kg (370 lbs) in the snatch and then lifted 201 kg (443 lbs) in the clean and jerk.

The Canadian weightlifting team, consisting of 11 athletes, brought home 5 medals. The women won 1 gold, 2 silvers and 1 bronze. Boady came home with the only men’s medal. Dalas, who is head coach of the Canadian team, reported that “the whole team did well, each team member achieved their personal bests at these games”, further adding “they did Canada proud.”

Proud father & coach Dalas Santavy sees a future Olympic champion in his son. Boady was tied for 22nd in the world in the 2017 International Weightlifting Federation ranks, making him the top-ranked athlete in the Commonwealth. He was 6th at the world championships last December.

Dalas has represented Canada at many major international events himself as an athlete in the Commonwealth Games and Pan-American Games. The Santavy family has a long history in the Boilermakers and the sport, learn more by clicking here (PDF).
