The Teens to Trades program helps young adults in Canada’s Armed Forces Reserves to enroll in apprenticeship programs in the trades. Boilermakers have been strong in their support for our communities and our troops.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

Since our founding more than 140 years ago, the Boilermakers union and its members have had a proud history of helping communities across Canada.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The Helmets to Hardhats (H2H)<\/a> program, of which we are a key founder, offers training and free career help to our veterans, enabling them to find work in the building and construction trades. More than 4,000 have registered for the program, and over 425 confirmed placements have been made, though there may be as many as three times as many veterans who have found work this way.<\/p>\n

\u2022 We also support Teens to Trades<\/a>, which helps young people who are in military reserves enroll for an apprenticeship.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\u2022 Besides the significant financial contribution made by the union, our members worked tirelessly to help the victims of the 2016 fires in Fort McMurray. Many members helped with projects like shipping food, drinking water and other supplies to the city. Others raised funds to help the displaced families. Boilermakers are a proud part of Fort McMurray and work to give back to the community which has given us so much.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The union has in recent years donated $10,000 to further diabetes research at St Michael\u2019s Hospital in Toronto.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The union supports younger children through KidSport Canada<\/a>, helping children participate in organized sport, and Dreams Take Flight<\/a>, which flies children with special needs to Disneyland.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Local lodges take an active role in their communities, giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to charities every year and supporting their members\u2019 fundraising activities. Local 146 in Edmonton has given $500,000 to build the Building Trades of Alberta Courage Centre<\/a>, which conducts research in rehabilitation therapy. Boilermakers from Local Lodge D366 have raised over $20,000 to conquer cancer in a dawn-to-dusk road hockey tournament<\/a> for the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. John Gras of Lodge 146 cycled 200km over two days to raise $21,375 from his fellow Boilermakers and others to benefit the Alberta Cancer Foundation<\/a>. Other lodges have given to hospice societies, local food banks and many other charities.<\/p>\n
