Canada’s Newly Elected Business Managers Meet
On July 31, 2018, newly elected Canadian Business Managers from across the country met in Toronto for training and to develop working relationships with the aim of improving service to Members. International Vice President of Canada Joseph Maloney called for and hosted the training session.
Maloney’s opening remarks focused on the importance of Business Managers to be exchanging information with each other. He emphasized that the International staff is also an important source of information regarding jurisdiction, health & safety, travel cards, and IBB policies & procedures – to name just a few areas in which the staff works on the behalf of Members.
The training aspect of the day focused on IBB structure & service, policies & procedures, membership & financial reporting, grievance handling & duty of fair representation, steward training, boilermaker.ca, National Maintenance & General Presidents agreements, jurisdictional assignment plans, project labour agreements, the owner client contact database and Boilermaker craft jurisdiction. Follow-up training is scheduled to take place in September.
Business Managers in attendance included Jerry Flaherty (L203), Roy Grills (L128), Stirling Munn (L128), Dalas Santavy (L128), Rob Hache (L128), Mike Feiffer (L555), Hugh MacDonald (L146), Robert Taylor (L191) and Tony Andrade (D10). International staff in attendance and presenting information included IVP Joseph Maloney, IR Kent Oliver, IR Cory Channon, IR Arnie Stadnick, AIP Marty Stanton, AIP Mark Vandiver and IR Richard MacIntosh. From the National Heath & Safety department were Jason McInnis and Blair Allin and from National Training were Jonathan White and Jim Beauchamp.
