Lodge 191 Business Manager, Jimmy Fitzpatrick, has lost his battle with cancer. Brother Fitzpatrick, a 30 plus year member of 191 passed away on March 29, 2014.

Prior to being elected Business Manager six years ago, he served his local lodge by sitting on the Executive board for 20 years. Brother Fitzpatrick was a Steel Fabricator who came from Scotland where he served his apprenticeship in the shipyards. Prior to moving to Victoria with his family, he worked in Shipyards in Saint John, NB and New York.

Jonathan Whitworth, CEO of Seaspan, the largest employer of Lodge 191 members said "I'm extremely saddened by the news, Jim was not only a great leader for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, he was also a kind and generous man who was able to move mountains with a firm commitment, a wry smile and a good story. In the five years I had the pleasure of working with Jimmy, he fixated on doing the right thing for the union members while at the same time taking into account what those running the shipyards needed to be a success. Jimmy will be sorely missed by those both on the Island and here on the mainland. I know Jimmy was a very religious and spiritual man, and I hope his faith kept him in peace at the end."

Joseph Maloney, International Vice-President for the Boilermakers said "Jimmy was a pure union man who did what he could to help his members get jobs within lodge 191 and travel card work in other parts of Canada. When Jimmy was in the room everyone knew he was there because he wanted the whole International union to know that the members of his lodge are very capable tradespeople who are committed to getting the job done right the first time. I am going to miss you Brother."
