Business Manager Emile Gareau has announced that Local 555 will move forward with a new welder apprenticeship program effective immediately.

"With the increase in our upcoming work hours and the future demand for welders, it is critical we train new members and be proactive in satisfying the demand for our services," said Brother Gareau.

When contractors place future orders for welders, they will be adjusted to make room for welder apprentices. For example, if an order comes in for 10 welders, eight journeypersons and two welder apprentices will be dispatched.

"This is a very forward-thinking decision by local 555 and will go a long way in further protecting their market share," said International Vice-President Joe Maloney.
