Boilermakers Refit the Arctic Challenger
Recently, a crew of 10 Boilermakers were dispatched to the Vancouver Dry Dock to work on the Arctic Challenger and other ships. The containment
barge, in for a refit and other upgrades, is used in the Arctic drilling operations for containment purposes. Canadian Industrial Mills Services
(CIMS) was called in to assist with the project because of their R rating pressure ticket and reputation.
The crew of Boilermakers who worked on the bow supports, anti-splash baffles inside two vessels, and replaced a 4-inch 150lb schedule 120 welding neck flange on another vessel, was led by the General Foreman Al Bennett and Lee Morgan, the working foreman on the night shift. Al Bennett, a 20 plus year member said "The Boilermakers worked their butts off to make the clients deadline and I am happy to report we did it with great success." The crew included Navdeep Gill, Sirack Asrat, Andrew Cousins, Rick Graigie, Travis Mundy, Jesse Morris, Dustin Cable and William Kawamura.
