Supporting the Lehigh 3

Supporters standing in front of the gate at the Regina Cement terminal where Boilermakers have been locked out since January 21st

Trade Unionists from across Regina came out on April 24th to support the Lehigh 3. On January 21st, multinational corporation Lehigh, locked out three loyal employees at their Regina Cement Terminal when the temperature was -40 degrees.

Boilermakers International Representative, Rob Lauzon said "The main issue in the dispute seems to be a company demand that employees work Sunday without overtime or bonuses. A management negotiator has agreed to terms three times but later reneged on the agreement in every case and came back to the table with more demands for concessions by the employees."

Many unions came out to show support to the Lehigh 3 - Saskatchewan Federation of Labour, IBEW, Building Trades, Saskatchewan Government Employers Union, COPE, Teamsters Local 395, Local 555, Local 532, Local D385, Local D486 and Local D11.

SFL President Larry Hubich said "For a multinational corporation to lockout three long-time employees looks like mean-spiritedness, not like an honest attempt to bargain a new contract."

Since the lockout, Lehigh has been using the Saskatchewan labour code to their advantage and have hired replacement workers to do the work of its loyal employees to drag out this unnecessary lockout. Why did the Saskatchewan government create such labour laws? It seems for the advantage of multinational corporations, not for the good people of Saskatchewan.

Boilermakers want to thank all who came out to support the Lehigh 3. This is another example of the people of Saskatchewan standing together in solidarity against an employer who wishes to punish their loyal employees along with Labour laws that are designed for the benefit of corporations like Lehigh and not for the benefit of worker's families.
