Boilermakers Organize Again on the Fraser River

Since 2006 Boilermakers have been representing tugboat operators on British Columbia's Fraser River. Now there is another tugboat operation - 24 employees from Quadrant Towing have joined the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers.

International Representative, Rob Lauzon, reports "following a long six week battle at the BC Labour Relations Board, we were successful in organizing our second employer, Quadrant Towing", adding "the Labour Board ruled that Quadrant Towing had committed numerous Unfair Labour Practice infractions during the organizing campaign and granted a Remedial Certification (Automatic Certification). This win was truly significant as we continue to attract interest among the unorganized in the Towboat industry. District Lodge D11 will now work on bargaining a first Collective Agreement."

Canadian International Vice President, Joseph Maloney, said "it was the desire of these workers to fulfill their right to organize themselves and the hard work of International Rep. Rob Lauzon, Kevin Forsyth and Mike Middleton."
