Petition to Expand the CPP/QPP

Source: The Canadian Labour Congress

Since 2009, finance ministers have been talking about improving the Canada Pension Plan, but every time they get close to an agreement, the federal government gets in the way. At the same time, the labour movement has been advocating a modest, responsible plan that would double future CPP benefits on a fully-funded basis.

This isn't a political issue, it's an issue of fairness for all Canadians. Ensuring that today's young Albertans have a safe and secure way to save enough to cover the basics when they retire is a problem. Most provinces agree we can fix it - we must fix it - for this and future generations.

In December, federal and provincial finance ministers will meet again. The provincial finance ministers must insist that Ottawa immediately table legislation enabling CPP improvements.

It's decision time for enhancing the Canada Pension Plan. We have to keep up the pressure on those finance ministers, and the federal government, to move forward.

Help us do this. Sign our petition.

After a lifetime of work, a pension that covers the basics - now that’s fair!

According to the House of Commons rules, only petitions with original signatures would be accepted officially. However, we are doing an online petition because we know it's much easier for our members. The CLC would quote the entire number of online petition signatures in the media and in with the House of Commons. We do need some original signatures so that we can have something to submit to the House of Commons, so please print off a copy (see attachment below) and ask co-workers, family & friends to sign. Send the hard copy signed petitions to:
