Lodge 555 Business Manager, Emile Gareau, welcomed the members & guests to an evening of celebration and reflection. International Secretary-Treasurer, William Creeden, noted the important role Lodge 555 has provided to the Boilermakers in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Western Ontario, making it the largest geographical jurisdiction in the International Brotherhood.
International Vice-President for Canada, Joseph Maloney, reminded everyone that the first union meeting for 555 took place in November 1954 when Ken George of Lodge 126 was appointed Secretary-Treasurer and Brother Tom Ellis was elected President. The work picture in Manitoba at the time included a new smelter in Thompson; an expansion for Imperial Oil and North Star Oil; an expansion for the Amy Street Steam plant in Winnipeg; construction on the McArthur Hydro Electric Generation Station; as well as a new coal fired thermal plant at Brandon. IVP Maloney further touched on when 555 was granted the jurisdiction of Saskatchewan and Western Ontario.
During the evening, Lodge 555 members who had served the Local Lodge over the years as Business Manager & Secretary-Treasurer were recognized.
