Eric Hache Wins the 2010 Boilermakers Apprenticeship Competition

Eric Hache of Lodge 146 was announced the winner of the 17th Annual Boilermaker Competition in Edmonton on June 24th, 2010, by National Training Coordinator Grant Jacobs.

Six graduate apprentices from across the country competed by completing theory tests covering the trade curriculum, the Boilermaker International Constitution and Collective Agreement. Then, two days of challenging practical exams in water tube replacement, tube expanding, layout & fitting, welding, flame cutting and rigging.

The Apprentices were: Bishop Jackson - Lodge 555, Francis Cadieux - Lodge 271, Andrew Dolan - Lodge 73, Adam Saunders - Lodge 359, Lucas Wood - Lodge 128 and Eric Hache - Lodge 146.
Lucas Wood was presented with the Apprentice Recognition Award. This award is voted on by the competitors and given to the apprentice who over the course of the competition displays genuine friendly qualities.

Each year an individual from industry who has been an avid supporter of apprenticeship is selected to be given the Industry Award of Excellence. The trustees of the National Training Trust Fund agreed to name Grant Brooks as the recipient for 2010. Grant recently retired after a long career with Catalytic and Bantrel Constructors in Labour Relations. He was one of the founding trustees of National Training.
