Hosted by the National Training Trust Fund (NTTF), the Boilermaker Biennial Apprenticeship Competition took place June 24-26, at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Boilermaker training centre. This year, graduated apprentices from across Canada attended, representing construction lodges 359, 146, 555, 128, 271 and 73.

As in the past, the competitions on the first day involved theory testing on rigging, drawings, health & safety, International Constitution and Boilermaker best practices. The second day involved hands on exercises in welding, tube expansion, nozzle layout, flame cutting, weight determination and rigging which involved judges representing the Boilermaker industry.

The Judges were Marty Albright, Ken Bachand, Al Dingwall, Ed Hoffmann, Ron Jacobs, Stephane Lapointe, Marcel Losier, Dion Malakoff, Kurt Middleton, Brian Mikkelsen, Rodger Morris, Kevin Petronski, Pierre Pitre, and Steve Johnson.

Brother George Longo, a 51-year member of Lodge 359, was recognized for his service to the industry at the awards banquet. To read more, click here.
