Thunder Bay Office Sets Up a New Training Centre
Darrel Bray, Boilermaker Business Representative in Thunder Bay, ON, proudly reports the opening a new 1500 square
foot shop with a 300 square foot training room.
The instructor, Brother Larenzo Serravalle, teaches SMAW, GTAW and MIG along with oxy/fuel cutting and air arc
gouging in the 8 ventilated 6'by 6' welding booths, using the ten lincoln invertec 300 amp welding machines, the two
lincoln wirefeed machines and a plasma cutter.
There are exhaust fans that remove the welding smoke that is counterbalanced by the make up air unit that supplies
fresh air to the shop. This system expels the carbon monoxide that occurs from the welding process and replaces it
with fresh air. In the winter months, the make up air unit also heats the intake air for the shop.
Darrell Bray said, "Last year while we were moving and upgrading the shop we had to do all our training at the
UA Local 628 and at Confederation College, but now we are back in business serving the members." He added "Thanks
to Lodges 555 & 128 along with the National Training & Trust Fund for their support, we were able to put
together such a fine welding training facility."
The office and training centre in Thunder Bay is funded and supported by Lodges 555 & 128. Thunder Bay is the
dividing line between Eastern Canada and Western Canada districts.
