Energy East: Ottawa needs to hear our voice!

The woman pictured in the postcard is not a model. She's a worker who could be one of thousands of Canadians - including Boilermakers - hired to work on the Energy East pipeline.

The postcard is one of thousands printed by Energy East and designed to be sent to Members of Parliament.

At the recent Boilermaker Industry Tripartite Conference, Gary Houston, vice-president of TransCanada Energy East Pipeline, urged our members to get involved and show their support for the project.

The pipeline will "change our dependence on the US market" at the same time as it replaces foreign oil in eastern Canadian refineries, said Houston.

The Energy East pipeline will also replace the shipment of oil by rail with a much safer and cleaner alternative. Since 2010, shipments of oil by rail have been "skyrocketing," said Houston and are expected to double in Ontario by 2024.

The pipeline is expected to create 14,000 jobs across Canada during the construction and development phase.
