Lodge 146 is Developing a New Training Centre
As Industry increases the demands for specialized training and job skills to compete against competitors, Lodge 146 in Edmonton is developing the Rigging, Fitting & Mechanical Training Facility to answer the requirements of her clients. The plan is to build a 35,000 square foot building that will have the following:
- 10,000 square foot office and classroom space,
- 25,000 square foot shop space,
- Overhead cranes running the length of the shop,
- Rigging Structure, Mini Boiler, Fabrication shop and Storage Tank,
- 24 overflow practice welding booths.
Lodge 146 has been working with Boilermakers National Training and Industrial Training International to develop a Master Rigger Certification curriculum. The goal is to provide more expert Boilermaker senior management on all upcoming projects that will be reached once the centre is under operation. The centre will be open to all members of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers.
Some the training that is planned for the centre is:
- Master Rigger,
- Bolting & Tensioning,
- Forklift
- Laser water cutting,
- Aerial work Platform,
- and safety training.
The members of Lodge 146 have given their approval of the facility that will be situated right next to the union hall in Edmonton. Construction for the building is expected to start in the fall of 2012 and completed in late 2013.
