December 14, 2012 - Bill C-377 On December 12, 2012 the Federal Government passed Bill C-377. The bill will force every labour organization in Canada (26,000 local unions across Canada) to file detailed financial information, including the names and addresses of companies and individuals paid more than $5,000 cumulatively in a year. This information would be posted publicly on a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website. [Read More] |

Watson Bursary Program Award Winners This annual program awards 88 bursaries of $500 for post-secondary studies to children of union members who may work on GPMA or NMA Maintenance projects in Canada. December 3, 2012 - Lodge 133 Update from Phil Halley, Coordinator, Boilermaker Intern Member Program The procedures, policies and by-laws of Lodge 133 are under development and will be posted once completed in "Members Only" on www.boilermaker.ca. The plan is to start the application process by early to mid-February of 2013. This initiative will help to ensure that all Boilermakers across Canada will have the opportunity for a prosperous future. |

November 27, 2012 - OCRC receives funding from the Canadian Cancer Society to study the burden of occupational cancer The Occupational Cancer Research Centre will lead a Canada-wide study investigating the human and economic impact of workplace exposure to carcinogens. July 5, 2012 - National Training Announcement Grant Jacobs, Director of National Training, is pleased to announce the hiring of Jim Beauchamp as the Assistant National Program Coordinator. Brother Beauchamp's duties will include managing various Manpower Resource Programs such as the US Member Recruitment Program and the TFW Program, as well as contributing to various education programs such as rigging training, red seal upgrade and common core curriculum. Brother Beauchamp is a Red Seal Boilermaker member of Lodge 555 where he has been a supervisor and instructor. He started his new position on July 1, 2012. |

July 4, 2012 - National Intern Member Program Announcement International Vice-Presidents, Joseph Maloney of Western Canada, and Edward Power for Eastern Canada, are pleased to announce that Brother Phil Halley has been hired to be the Coordinator for the National Intern Member Program. The National Intern Member Program will be used to recruit qualified tradespeople to work in the Boilermaker industry. Brother Halley has been in the Boilermaker industry for over 35 years where he has been a Red Seal Boilermaker, Dispatcher, Business Representative and Business Manager of Lodge 359. |
