2012 Boilermakers Scholarship Program

International President Newton B. Jones has announced the 2012 Scholarship competition sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. In 2012, the Boilermakers will award a total of $12,000.00 to Canadian Students.

To be eligible, the applicant must be a son, daughter, legally adopted child or dependent of a member in good standing. Applications are limited to high school seniors who will be entering their first year of academic study at a degree-granting, accredited college or university within one year of their high school graduation.

Applications will be accepted between January 1 and March 1, 2012. Applications postmarked after the March 1, 2012 deadline cannot be considered.

Scholarship candidates must submit the following:

  1. The official Scholarship Application (as revised December, 2011);
  2. Proof of relationship or dependency to the Boilermaker member;
  3. The applicant's high school transcript; and
  4. A 300-500 word, typed essay on this year's topic, "What is your opinion for the Canadian Parliamentary system? Would you improve it? If so, how?" ** Note - the scholarship applications and essays must be typed or legibly handwritten. If applications are not legible, they will not be considered.**

The Scholarship Committee appointed will review applications and select the winners. The winners will be selected on the basis of a variety of factors, including academic achievement, career goals, extra-curricular activities, outside school activities and the applicant's essay.
