Lodge 580 Boilermakers Receive Recognition for Their Work

Bob Fish, the President of Lodge 580, reports the members in Halifax, Nova Scotia, received recognition from the HMCS Ville De Quebec and HMCS Iroquois for their efforts. The two Canadian Navy Ships were in the Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott dockyards for a refit. Lodge 580 members are federal government employees who maintain and repair ships for the Canadian Navy.

The HMCS Iroquois is an air defense destroyer. The crew particularly noted the work of the Boiler shop: "The Boiler Shop was instrumental in troubleshooting and rectifying significant control faults plaguing the starboard boiler. Their expertise and assistance, provided on very short notice, ensured rapid restoration for Iroquois' steam production capability, considerably improving the quality for the life for the ship's company."

The HMCS De Quebec's multi-role patrol frigate crew sent a message noting "the cooperation and efforts between the parties ensures that technical readiness and operational capability is maintained throughout the fleet."

Local 580 President Bob Fish stated, "All members of Local 580 are there 24/7 to provide all services needed for our Canadian Navy Ships so our military forces can do their job for Canada in a safe way and all local 580 members are very proud to do this for their country."

Edward Power, International Vice-President for Eastern Canada, said "When I visit the dockyards I see the dedication these members have to the Canadians who serve in the military by their strong work ethics, they deserve their recognition."
