Brother Denis Lafleur, Local 146, reports that fifteen (15) different Boilermaker Lodges from across the USA and Canada came together on the 2012 Syncrude spring shutdown (Plant 37-1), one of the biggest outages in history, in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Boilermakers brought their trade skills to work on furnaces F-1 and F-2 in the 37-1 plant. The Boilermakers worked on one of the world's biggest Vacuum Towers, known as C-1, 256 feet to the top of this Vessel. Brother Lafleur said "We all had the opportunity to climb, some several times a night."

Brother Lafleur said "In all my years as a Boilermaker and being in the Construction trades for over 20 something years, never have I seen a group of professional tradesman come together and work as a team. Everyone, from our 1st year apprentices to our Journeymen/Journeywomen with 5 to 15 years of experience, as well as some of our retired members (with up to 40 years of experience) working together, teaching and learning from one another with such professionalism and respect. It was a pleasure having this opportunity to work with this great group of men and women."
