Evasive Answers Won’t Provide Solutions to Climate Change

At COP26, the United Nations climate conference, Steven Guilbeault the Canadian Minister of the Environment and Climate Change skirted inquiries of his previous anti-nuclear energy stance. Instead Guilbeault stated, “It’s not governments that are going to decide which technologies… it’s going to be the markets.”
After a two week assembly of world policy-makers, scientists, environmental activists, and climate experts from the 197 member countries, one would expect our Canadian officials to do more than shrug their shoulders and down play their role in this vitally important decision making process.
As Boilermakers that build and service Canada’s nuclear generating plants, we need to insist that our Government strongly supports nuclear energy as well as its important role in reducing GHG emissions. It is time that our Government speaks up in proud support of all that CANDU technologies have achieved. However, if they won’t… we will.

Canadian’s should be very proud of our nuclear achievement and we need a Government that is equally proud and supportive of optimizing CANDU technologies in our approach to climate change solutions.
